The actor, who became a household name in Pakistan after the series was dubbed in Urdu and aired in 2020, revealed some amusing and emotional stories that took place during his trip.
A Warm Welcome by Pakistani Fans
Engin Altan described his visit to Pakistan as a truly fascinating experience. He was overwhelmed by the love and admiration he received from Pakistani fans. The popularity of Diriliş: Ertuğrul in the country reached a peak during the pandemic, and the actor felt it was important to acknowledge that love personally. Despite the challenges posed by COVID-19, he made the effort to travel to Pakistan and meet his fans.
According to Engin, the warm reception he received was beyond anything he had expected. People recognized him wherever he went, calling out to him with affection and respect. “The love I got from Pakistan was something I had never experienced before,” he said in a recent interview.
The Karachi Experience During COVID-19
One of the most intriguing parts of his trip, according to the actor, was the time he spent in Karachi during the height of the pandemic. Engin Altan humorously mentioned that it felt as if no one in Pakistan believed in the existence of the virus. “People kept saying that COVID is a lie, that no one dies from it—and oddly enough, no one was dying,” he laughed.
He recalled how surprising it was to see such a carefree attitude in the midst of a global crisis. While the rest of the world was locked down, Pakistanis seemed to go about their lives with minimal concern, and that struck him as both shocking and oddly amusing.
An Unexpected Crowd in His Hotel Room
In another light-hearted story, Engin shared a moment from the day he arrived in Pakistan. He had just checked into his hotel room and started unpacking his luggage when suddenly, around 20 people walked in without knocking. Startled, he asked them what they were doing in his room. Their response? “Yes, we know. We’re here to take pictures.”
The actor said he was initially confused and somewhat alarmed, but eventually, he couldn’t help but laugh at the situation. It showed him just how enthusiastic and devoted his fans were, and he appreciated the genuine excitement in their eyes.
Chaos and Love at a Karachi Mosque
Perhaps the most intense moment of his trip came when he visited a famous mosque in Karachi. He had arranged to meet with the mosque’s Imam for a quiet and respectful conversation. But as soon as people recognized him, word spread like wildfire. Within minutes, the mosque was flooded with nearly 4,000 people.
“There was no security at that time, and the crowd grew so fast that the national guards had to come in to rescue me,” Engin recalled. Though the situation could have turned dangerous, the actor said he felt incredibly touched by the people’s energy and admiration. “It was chaotic, but honestly, it was one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life.”
Reflecting on the Cultural Bond
Engin Altan noted how deeply connected Pakistani fans feel to the values portrayed in Diriliş: Ertuğrul—honor, bravery, family, and faith. He believes this cultural and spiritual connection is what made the show such a massive hit in Pakistan. He also appreciated how Turkish culture was embraced so warmly by the Pakistani audience.
He said that he hopes to return to Pakistan again in the future, perhaps under calmer circumstances, to explore more of the country and its people. “I still remember every moment. Pakistan is not just a country where people liked my show—it’s a place where I felt like I belonged.”

اداکار نے بتایا کہ وہ کورونا وبا کے دوران کراچی آئے تھے اور اس دورے کو وہ کبھی نہیں بھول سکتے۔ انہوں نے مزاحیہ انداز میں کہا کہ “پاکستان میں کسی کو یقین ہی نہیں تھا کہ کورونا کوئی حقیقت ہے۔ لوگ کہتے تھے کہ یہ سب جھوٹ ہے اور کوئی اس سے مرتا بھی نہیں—اور حیرت کی بات یہ ہے کہ واقعی کوئی نہیں مر رہا تھا۔”
یہ بیان انہوں نے ہنستے ہوئے دیا اور کہا کہ پاکستانیوں کا بے فکری سے جینے کا انداز ان کے لیے باعث حیرت تھا، خاص طور پر ایسے وقت میں جب دنیا بھر میں سخت لاک ڈاؤن نافذ تھے۔
ہوٹل میں غیر متوقع مہمان
آنگین آلتان نے ایک اور واقعہ سنایا کہ جب وہ پاکستان پہنچے اور ہوٹل میں اپنے کمرے میں سامان کھول رہے تھے تو اچانک 20 کے قریب لوگ بغیر اجازت اندر داخل ہوگئے۔ انہوں نے پوچھا کہ آپ لوگ میرے کمرے میں کیا کر رہے ہیں؟ جواب ملا، “ہاں ہمیں پتہ ہے، ہم تصاویر لینے آئے ہیں۔”
اداکار نے کہا کہ وہ پہلے تو پریشان ہوئے لیکن بعد میں ہنس دیے کیونکہ یہ ثابت کرتا ہے کہ پاکستانی مداح کتنے پرجوش اور محبت کرنے والے ہیں۔
مسجد کا ناقابلِ فراموش لمحہ
ایک اور یادگار لمحہ تب آیا جب وہ کراچی کی ایک مشہور مسجد میں گئے۔ ان کا ارادہ تھا کہ وہ امام مسجد سے پرامن ملاقات کریں، مگر جیسے ہی لوگوں کو ان کی موجودگی کا علم ہوا، مسجد لوگوں سے بھر گئی۔ تقریباً چار ہزار افراد مسجد میں امڈ آئے۔ انہوں نے بتایا کہ “وہاں کوئی سکیورٹی نہیں تھی، اور رش اتنا ہو گیا کہ نیشنل گارڈز کو اندر آنا پڑا تاکہ مجھے نکال سکیں۔”
یہ لمحہ بظاہر خوفناک تھا لیکن آنگین آلتان نے اسے اپنی زندگی کا بہترین تجربہ قرار دیا۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ “یہ ہجوم، یہ پیار، سب کچھ بہت جذباتی اور ناقابلِ یقین تھا۔”
ثقافتی تعلق اور روحانی ہم آہنگی
آنگین آلتان نے اس بات پر بھی روشنی ڈالی کہ پاکستانی عوام کو “ارطغرل” سیریز کی اقدار سے کتنی گہری وابستگی ہے۔ جیسے عزت، بہادری، خاندانی رشتے اور ایمان۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ یہی روحانی اور ثقافتی ہم آہنگی ہے جس نے اس ڈرامے کو پاکستان میں مقبول بنایا۔
انہوں نے امید ظاہر کی کہ وہ دوبارہ پاکستان آئیں گے، شاید کسی پُرسکون وقت میں تاکہ وہ اس خوبصورت ملک کو مزید قریب سے جان سکیں۔ انہوں نے کہا، “پاکستان صرف ایک ملک نہیں جہاں میرا ڈرامہ پسند کیا گیا، بلکہ یہ وہ جگہ ہے جہاں مجھے اپنا پن محسوس ہوا۔”
