The timing of the protest was symbolic. November marks the anniversary of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots that followed the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Thousands of Sikhs were brutally murdered in the aftermath, and justice for the victims remains elusive. During the protest, leaders from various Sikh and Kashmiri organizations addressed the crowd. Among them were Ghazala Habib, Chairperson of Friends of Kashmir; Dr. Hardam Singh Azad, a prominent Sikh leader; Sukhvinder Singh; Gurmail Singh; and Dayan Singh. Each of them expressed grave concern over the deteriorating human rights situation in India.
The speakers emphasized that the Modi government’s Hindutva-driven policies have turned India into an increasingly hostile state for religious and ethnic minorities. Both Sikhs and Kashmiris are facing unlawful surveillance, arbitrary arrests, and systemic discrimination. According to the protest leaders, India’s democracy has been hijacked by a dangerous ideology that seeks to silence dissenting voices.

مقررین نے اس بات پر زور دیا کہ بھارت صرف اپنی سرزمین تک محدود نہیں رہا بلکہ اب دوسرے ملکوں میں بھی اقلیتوں کو نشانہ بنا رہا ہے۔ پاکستان اور کینیڈا میں سکھ رہنماؤں کے قتل میں بھارت کے ملوث ہونے کے واضح ثبوت موجود ہیں۔
یہاں تک کہ امریکہ میں بھی سکھ کارکنوں کو قتل کرنے کی منصوبہ بندی کا انکشاف ہو چکا ہے، جو اس بات کا واضح ثبوت ہے کہ بھارت ایک دہشت گرد ریاست کی طرح کام کر رہا ہے۔
عالمی برادری کی توجہ کا مطالبہ
احتجاجی مظاہرین نے اقوام متحدہ، انسانی حقوق کی تنظیموں اور دنیا کی جمہوری حکومتوں سے مطالبہ کیا کہ وہ بھارت کی ریاستی دہشتگردی کا فوری نوٹس لیں۔ ان کا کہنا تھا کہ اگر دنیا خاموش رہی تو بھارت کے حوصلے مزید بلند ہوں گے اور مظالم بڑھیں گے۔
